Activities
The members of Fox Valley Newcomers and Neighbors have a wealth of activities they can participate in. Come join us for our monthly luncheon, our regular event for all members, or join one of the special interest groups below. Monthly Luncheon
We hold a luncheon each month at local restaurants and other venues, followed by an interesting program. Our luncheons are wonderful opportunities to meet others in the club and find out more about our activities. The monthly luncheon is announced in our newsletter.
Mah Jongg
Mah Jongg is an ancient tile game developed in China. We generally meet on Friday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. in players’ homes. New players are welcome and we will happily teach you how to play.
Critic's Corner
We usually meet for lunch or supper prior to the movie, but if you prefer to meet us at the box office that works too. Priscilla posts the movie choices the weekend prior to the show.
Breakfast Club
Socialize and eat! We meet in an area restaurant for breakfast once a month.
Book Clubs
Books and More, Bookends: There's a time and a book for everyone.
French Conversation
We meet once a month at a local restaurant to practice conversing in French. All ability levels are welcome if you speak some French, but this is not a class.
Ladies Lunch Bridge
Do you like to play and socialize? Our two groups play on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, September through May. We start at 9:50 am, break for lunch, and play again until about 2:45 pm. You don't need a partner; we rotate every four hands.
After Six
Members bring appetizers to share as well as wine and other beverages. The host provides coffee served with dessert. Open to all members, this is the time to spend getting acquainted with the other wonderful members in our club.
Girls' Night Out
We meet at a local restaurant once a month for appetizers or dinner and drinks.
Excellent Adventures
If you're looking for new and interesting places to go, Excellent Adventures is for you. Musical or theater outings; checking out antique stores, museums, architectural and botanical tours, going shopping and having lunch in different suburbs taking in an interesting lecture, you name it.
Wacky Walkers
Fun and exercise. Wacky Walkers meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. Join us for walks in local forest preserves and other interesting natural areas.
500 Cards
500 is a trick-taking game that is an extension of Euchre with some ideas from Bridge. We welcome singles and couples who enjoy card playing.
Liverpool (a Form of Rummy)
Liverpool Rummy is a popular variation on the basic Contract Rummy game. We meet on the 4th Thursday of each month at 1pm and play to approximately 4:30 pm.
Pottawatomie Ladies Monday Morning Golf League
We have three tee times starting at 8:45 am every Monday morning at Pottawatomie Golf Course in St. Charles. This is a nine hole course and ladies can either walk or ride.
Mexican Train Dominoes
Mexican Train is a game played with dominoes. The object of the game is for a player to play all the dominoes from his or her hand onto one or more chains, or "trains", emanating from a central hub or "station". Loads of fun!
Active Men - Plus
The Men’s Group is new, but it has several activities to join. The current list includes: Golf, Pickle Ball, Wine/ Beer/ Spirits Club, Men's Breakfast Club, Card Games, Sports Bar Games, and the Restaurant Club. The monthly newsletter and emails will keep everyone informed with dates and activities.
